>>12831175>How do you still come up with new ideas that get readers to buy books when thousands and thousands of books already exist?I mostly write in genres where the readers are voracious and binge read. Plus most readers have very particular things that they like, so there aren’t enough writers to cater to all of their little niches. So I find a niche, try to tell a good story with good characters, and if the reader likes it they’ll tell their friends.
Thinking up a story isn’t hard, really. Anyone who’s been a GM does that. The hard part is turning it into something that people actually want to read. The reason those dead guys are still selling so well is because they were wonderful storytellers. And the reason people like the one in OP don’t is because they’re not telling stories that people want to read.
Oh, I write popular genre fiction. I don’t consider myself an artist. I’m just a guy who writes stories I hope people enjoy. I’ve gotten in big fights with other “writers” about that.
But I’m the one making a living at it while most of them still have day jobs. :)
