Sometimes the boards have a short circuit and cause these kinds of problems. Sometimes you can inspect and find a blown capacitor, sometimes a small black spot near a component, sometimes nothing.
If there are no beeps, and it is not the power supply, it is usually a capacitor or the video board that raised temperature and is shorted.
