What do you think would be more likely to make for a good way to build alliances inside of an MMORPG game:
a) make all alliances 100% voluntary and on self-agreed terms (parties can be disbanded at any point, anyone can play the "leader" role)
b) make alliances surge through one combatant having to fight against the other one, make whoever gets to win become the leader of the party and collective owner of all the goods that everyone in it gets, but also allow people to switch alliances if the leader happens to be severely injured or is extremely low on magic power/offense/defense points, thereby letting people who do hold their loyalty towards their leader prove it
