Desert religions tend to have a strict moral code because life is tough and you've got to follow strict rules for your people to survive. If you go to a lush tropical place in ancient times, they would not have strict codes about sex and such like in the more arid climes. Basically what I'm saying is, people in Figi or Hawaii are not going to invent something like Islam.
Hell, even in ancient greece and Rome sexuality wasn't taboo, because the greece/italy area is a pretty fertile area.
