It was the most rewarding and fulfilling time of my life. I was with the Cistercians, so "fun" usually meant an honest day of work followed by contemplative prayer. I also enjoyed cooking for the brothers once a week.

God bless you as well Anon. Can always stay for a weekend at your local monastery, do the hours with the brothers or sisters, see if its for you. I turned a weekend trip into two years but even then I wasn't ready. A beautiful life for those called though.

Understand that you can both be saved for accepting Christ be still suffer horribly on Earth due to being disobedient to God. Thief on the cross is the Bibles greatest example of this; he was forgiven by Jesus but still lived a hard life and died a terrible death due to disobeying God. So OP, if salvation is all you want them worry not, for Christ forgives you. However, He will NEVER favor and protect you if you do not obey Him and WILL watch you suffer and die just like He did thief on the cross.
