As for the overwhelming emotions, there is two types, the kind that lasts and the kind that doesn't. the latter is way more common and it is as you describe, unconditional and all that hollywood garbage. the kind that lasts is like having a long term friend with mutual respect. and you have to focus on that word, respect, because if you fail to respect your partner then relationship will be doomed. everything else comes naturally.
