They are good for lower IQ people who have to do backbreaking work. But you can make a good living doing something productive.

Only professional school is worth it at this point. My wife and I are lawyer-doctor and we pull about 350k a year combined in fields that don't demand a lot of work hours. But before I went to law school my undergrad degrees were worthless.

Law school's criticisms come largely from people who went with no intentions of becoming a lawyer (so many of these people) and those who had unrealistic expectations and would complain about any job they had.

To be fair this isn't true for everyone. Through my wife I know a lot of female doctors who are married to men who are welders and shit. But I agree you can't be working at Home Depot and married to a woman who makes 150k

Yeah that’s if you work in trades you actually have to do stuff all day. Average office worker only works for like 4 hours a day. The rest of the day is pointless meetings, lunch, and socializing.

I work as gardener, most of my customers are single mothers in their 30's and 40's with a degree and they're on my dick constantly, to the point where it's fucking annoying.

Ok so I am in a union so my pay is better than non union, but I'm a telecom tech and I made $116k last year. Maybe 110hrs of ot.
I dropped out of mech engineering in my 2nd year for the trades, and now I go around and plug a laptop up to scada equipment and type in settings for mad dosh. And all my engineers make like 20k less than me. Granted they get to sit in an office and I have to drive around in a van but still.

Sure fuck being a roofer or plumber but there are trade jobs that pay awesome.

Nice man. I wouldnt want to work in an office anyways. Too much dealing with women. Telecomm is a good industry to have experience in. Im a lineman for a power company and made 120k last year but had more OT than you, about 350 hrs. Could make more somewhere else but this is close to home always.

Cut your losses. I got a degree in environmental engineering. Couldn't find any work because only niggers and women get hired in the industry. My goal was to use math and science to make the world a better, cleaner place, now I work in chemical manufacturing making highly toxic and explosive materials. The pay is ok though, made $50,000 last year even after being raped by taxes. Learning a trade is not a meme.

It's not that bad but the work is a lot harder on the body than being some pencil pusher Excel monkey in an office. You can make decent money and have an easier time finding a job due to having a hard skill though compared to most meme degrees.

Basically if you're going into debt for a degree you're probably better off doing trades instead unless you're going to a top tier school where you can make connections/get by on the reputation of the school's name, or doing STEM (but even that is becoming oversaturated).

A degree isn't as valuable as it used to be and libarts/business majors from state schools are a dime a dozen these days. There's plenty of people who went to school because they felt they had to but end up with little practical skills to stand out in the job market so they end up working for fairly low wages while being in debt.

No anon, it's not a meme, it's a great idea. You can get involved in basically any trade easily (if you don't mind personally shaking hands with the guy responsible for hiring) a lot of the time they prefer you to know nothing as well. It's better to send someone to train where you want them to or train them yourselves before they've built any bad habits.

Most people in this thread are referring to STEM, to begin with. It is oversaturated unless you studied CS or want to become a doctor, you'd still have additional schools like Masters and PHD to really be desirable in the job market. Which is quite a lot of work, money, and effort versus trades. Not that trades are easy, but neither is STEM at an advanced level.

Yes.
It’s important to have field experience. I’ve seen supervisors hired “off the street” have a hard time of it.
I don’t chase OT like some guys and I still made $160,000 last year.
Linemen make the real money. Those guys work crazy OT. I know guys that make $250,000.

Look up arc flashes and arc blasts before you go into a commercial electrician job. I'd never work above 240V even if this is rare. An arc blast is literally hotter than the Sun for a split second and spits out superheated plasma that can still burn through arc blast suits.
