From what I can gather from visiting Italy several times in my life:
>north italy = european, civilised, france/germany tier, first world, white people, good quality of life
>south italy = latin america tier, second world, people look like arabs or mestizos, not european, poverty, shame
>rome = somewhere inbetween the two depending on where you go
Really, Italy should probably be three countries: Lombardy, the Vatican State (encompassing all of Rome/Latium), and the Islamic Republic of the Two Sicilies.
