There's not much to it, really. I live in a scarcely populated area, at a base of a forest covered massif.
It was around 3AM and I was going home in drunken stupor, no street lights or cell coverag.
It started faintly but it kept getting louder consistently as I kept forward. Sort of like the witch from L4D. As anyone should, I just put it in higher gear whilst trying to walk as silently as possible and being dizzy to boot.
As you can imagine I didn't get any sleep that night. I've had run-ins with bears, badgers and jackals, all sans cubs fortunately, and lived without conflict.
What I truly fear most I guess would be stumbling upon another human in a very isolated area where people really shouldn't be.

And spiders.

Gray aliens too.

My residential building has two big stairways. One stairway is frequently used by the residents and is renewed and cleaned regularly. The other stairway is never used despite being unlocked. The only jump suicides in the neighborhood were from a high public balcony that's connected to the "haunted stairway". I was always afraid if that stairway as a kid. It still creepes me out.
