>>13169594>Is there an afterlife /pol/?Almost certainly not in any way that would matters to a hedonist.
Everything you value in this world is tightly linked to your biological self. All your self-image, your ego, your earthly accomplishments, your urges and desires and fears, it all stems from your simple biological needs and desire to survive and procreate.
Even your desire to keep living after you die is but a simple survivalist egocentric rationale.
But this doesn't mean there's 'nothing' after you die. How can we know? We don't. But whatever it is, everything points out at not being a product of your biology anymore, given that your biology is gone. Maybe you'll live in a realm that's a product of your memories of how you lived life on earth.
Scientifically we know close to nothing about sentience. Science can't create life in a lab, we can barely create amino acids in the lab, which is the building block of life, but we still have no idea what's the link between the material world and sentient awareness.
I see no evidence our primitive earthly ego will live on. What would even be our purpose? We have simple purposes now, sure. But without a body, what's the purpose? On earth we have people that depend on us and need our protection, but without a body who needs anybody? Everything you cared about the most while alive, would automatically become meaningless in the afterlife. Do you even want an afterlife like that?
The afterlife might as well be your children. They're the closest thing to a reincarnation, they're the earthly life that keeps on after you're gone. They will inherit the world you create for them. If you've been good, their life will be more heavenly; if you were a degenerate, they might live tougher lives. That's something you can at least be certain about.
