If they have no money, they carry intense shame, but all the sales grift books they read tell them they need to act confident, and they only care about you insofar as you could be a potential customer for some damn service they're selling, but they've read you need to be authentic to cultivate the client relationship, and they end up like that poor third kid who took the infamous stutter-step penalty shop: trying to conjure feelings they don't have and a mien alien to them and present as a memorable individual you'll want to do business with. It's all very sad. They should just get a forklift license and skip several tiers of the Varna pyramid and finally escape this cycle of rebirth and suffering.
