a genie offers you 1 billion dollars. but you will only live 1 to 100 more days. (somewhere in between.) also, the money can only be spent on you, and will be destroyed after you die.
Or
you can refuse the offer, and the genie will guarantee that you live at least 100 more years, but nothing else.
probably 80-90% of people choose the latter. even if that means continuing their life working at fast food or retail. this example is obviously excluded enslaved people, or people with terrible nerve pain or something, but for the average person.
