unfortunately, it seems like the government cannot be truly honest, because people will panic.
electric cars are a good idea, fundamentally. without a doubt, they will replace gasoline vehicles in the future, like how gasoline replaced horses. we're just not to that point yet.
so it's a stopgap to make it appear like we are making progress.
politics is about trying to reduce panic, and pointing to things that the "other side" is doing to try and make people panic about that. then, you build confidence in "your side".
