We hear from Jesus that the Father is greater than all, that all his miracles are done by the Father and that only he knows the hour of Christs return, so we do have certain set of distinction between Son and Father, yet Christ tells us that He and the Father are one.
Basically I see it that God is infinite, he just doesnt fit into creation. So he took his light/essence and formed from it Christ through whom subsequently all else if formed. He is the same in all qualities aside from not being infinite (having a beginning due to being created) and his potency (as his miracles were done by the Father though you can argue the support from the Father gives the son omnipotence as well). But from our perspective they are the same, perfect being of light of pure goodness being of the same essence as the other. Christ then came into a body of a mortal and with it gained all our mortal limitations (as we see him being tempted by Satan even) including mortality itself. He thus was fully God and fully man and to us it makes no real difference wether he is God himself or not as he brought the word of the Father, did the works of the Father and did all what the Father desired. Are we not to pay the son or even any messenger of a king the same respect as the King who send him? isnt mistreating them mistreating Him who send him?
So I see Christ and the Father of 2 different beings with nearly the same qualities, differing only in the greatness, and there both are one and yet seperate. So the question left is if the holy spirit is God too to make it a trinity. I would argue yes as the holy spirit is the direct energy and love proceeding from God, the light which gives everything life and from which Christ was formed in the process.
This goes a bit into the metaphysical build up and creation and may helps understand som of my views
