Gerbils (strictly monogamous, 1 partner forever, impossible bonding when adults because they have a “fixed marriage ceremony” when they are 1 month old, yes it’s real)

Hamsters are hard to bond, but possible if you use a fence to separate each other in the same cage for at least 28 days.

One time I connected two hamster cages together with a hamster tube and one of the hamsters acted like an asshole and took all of the bedding from the other cage and moved it to his own cage. He would attack the other bitch hamster whenever that hamster came into his cage. The other hamster live in a shitty cage with no bedding until I decided to remove the shitty cage and just have them live together in one cage again.

I've had 10+ hamsters always got along fine. I even bred some of them once. The only time I had trouble with an aggressive hamster was when I got a Campbell's dwarf hamster, which was inferior in all ways to the based Syrian hamster
