When I started university as a bachelor student / undergrad, I got bad grades and realised I had to up my game.
I don't really do anything particularly special, but for me working in a technical field, I have a bottom-up approach of understanding. If there's some algorithm I need to understand, or some protocol, or whatever, I need to imagine how it is implemented at the lowest detail, in order to understand it.
