If you're the unlucky majority, you're living in some rural shithole, or possibly a literal cave, catching whatever rats and other critters come by that have yet to die from the immense pollution of the ground water and air.
Also your everyday life can upend entirely at the random whims of the guy in charge. One day you could have a pretty alright job, doing some menial task, the next your job is now illegal and you're a social pariah to the legions of mindless drones that defend the guy in charge. And worse, they do it for free.
That is China in its purest form. An entire nation of crybully jannies that do it for free. It's not a good life, but if you're born into it you wouldn't even know the misery of your lot. One day there's an apartment complex across the street, the next day it's collapsed. The next week you're told the apartment complex never even existed in the first place.
