>>13390549There's some evidence for and against that. I will say however the any kind of religion is particularly effective at indoctrination early on, or has been for a long time. And you can imagine why from an evolutionary lens because merely having good values in a generation isn't enough, you need meta systems which have all of the mechanisms which pass those values down from one generation to the next and teach them in a reliable way, which is kind of what church and the bible, and the whole super structure of man made religion is.
A lot of atheists have deprogrammed from religion however which shows it is possible for people to question what they were taught, they're the fastest growing portion of the population, especially in europe. The mistake theists made was stepping on the turf of science and making it too easy to prove their claims wrong rather than sticking to what I consider their proper domain of values.
Morality and values are just guidance for how people ought to behave. What we ought to value and what we ought to do if we're being "good". Think of it in terms of Hume and the IS/OUGHT distinction, science speaks to what is and religion speaks to ought and they don't overlap. It doesn't look like the death of god in the USSR is different from the USA funnily enough, that's why the new social movements rushing in to define all the SJWisms is heavily rooted in the same marxist class theory shit that took over the USSR, it's the same thing. It's people using intellectual arrogance to try and invent their own values and causing a huge fucking social mess as they go.
Freedom is nice but to the degree you lack responsibility it's pathological. That's why the progressives focus on rightsrightsrights constantly and want to forego any and all responsibility for their bad decisions.
It's not clear that it has to be religion, it's just that over tens of thousands of years of values evolving along side humans produced religion as the best we have so far.
