Masters of these martial arts were basically (and in many cases literally) monks. Of course if you just strip out all the philosophy and just min-max for combat effectiveness you'll win more, but it's missing most of the point

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s there were these no holds barred mma tournaments that pitted BJJ vs karate or karate vs kung fu etc. Kung fu turned out to be retarded. Karate and taekwondo are somewhat effective. BJJ and kick boxing worked the best.

If you want to learn to fight, you should sue what works for people who actually fight. Not what works for Jackie Chan in movies.

Did you forget that the currents champions are mostly strikers? Grappling oriented MMA fighters are getting their ass kicked because now striking oriented MMA fighters are learning ways to keep the fight on their feet.

It's the same type of evolution we got when BJJ started fucking everyone up in the 90s. Striking oriented fighters are winning in MMA.

MMA is a mix of styles, which will most definately teach you things that are illegal in sport. Sport has some benifits. A person who's been in multiple ring fights will clean up someone who's been in not a tight purely because the unexperienced will be panicking & fight like a sperg, the other will be controlled & precise.
