i installed on a VM and it's actually a work of brilliance. His code is a little... like different in places, not standard type code, but it works and it's clever. As a PhD in CS I can't imagine the effort of writing that much of an OS from ground up myself and it actually functioning.

This isn't 2009, when (((Realtek))) wireless drivers needed to be sideloaded via ethernet and you were fucked if you had one of those specific Intel ethernet cards that needed a nonfree driver.
These days, you can jump straight to wpa_supplicant.
