>>13437250i don't think i will
well the way it was presented ended up being a mess unfortunately. we were doing the examples of と思います and one was i think she has a boyfriend which ofc is 彼氏がいると思います, but the next one was i think he needs a car today
we're not really told to go over the vocab on our own time so the prof explained that it would be 今日、車がいると思います. naturally someone asked, then, how u would say that u need someone but the prof didn't realize that he was asking because of the homophone situation so she got very confused, but after like 2 or 3 minutes of discussion she basically just said that to exist and to need are pronounced the same.
then a little bit later we revisited the topic and someone asked why u would use が for 車がいる and for some reason the prof interpreted it as why use が instead of は, so gave a confusing explanation on that topic rather than explaining transitivity or the fact that 要る is technically to be needed rather than to need
in the end it never even came up that 居る is ichidan and 要る is godan
