a) they once found out about them while clicking through Wikipedia articles on mental disorders and decided to claim that that's what they have because it would make a wonderful addition to their personal description that would make them sound like a dramatic theatre play protagonist rather than an ordinary human with an unremarkable life
b) they once looked through a list of mental illnesses and selected one that looked like it had just enough in common with their personality to allow them to think of themselves as that
c) they once saw a funny meme about it on Reddit and said "Yep, that sounds like me"
d) they once heard of it somewhere, but have no idea what it really is
