I don't know where to begin. Literally, because I don't have enough data. We've had 4 60-something men die behind the wheel in the past two weeks around here. I wonder what the common denominator was? Anyway, speculation aside, how much cognitive damage has 18 months of constant extreme stress done to the average driver? Saw the strangest thing a few days ago. I heard a frantic honking, looking out the window at the doctor's office, and a man had thrown on his turning signal in the left lane, without moving into the turning lane, and almost caused a disaster. He seemed to realise his error, and rolled into the turning lane, and drifted into the left oncoming lane and stopped, and almost caused another smash-up. Traffic stopped and let him get across, and he pulled into the parking lot and just sat there with his head on the steering wheel for like 10 minutes. I should go back because I came off as flippant. Months of detention at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo would also likely result in reports of confusion, anxiety, depression and fatigue. It's a Gordian knot of duplicity and ignorance and overreach and panic and terror and profiteering. We just don't know and we never will. Just another blob of history people like me are unfortunately inclined to pick at like a scab, while others live their lives. On the positive, I'm not anxious. Negative? Oh. I figured out most of the pieces. The only one I'm not sure of was what exactly Charles Lieber was doing having his assistants running around china with stuff that should be never been outside the lab. I can think of reasons they would do that, but the way it was done seems to contradict everything I can think of beyond intentionally distributing the virus while making it look like they were trying to sell it. But Lieber went down for it. Maybe he was a scape goat? Seems like a really good piece to waste on scapegoating. So I just don't know.

The dichotomy of happiness and suffering have a lot of parallels to the tides of virtue and sin, don't they? It might be one of those misconceptions that comes from the limits of language, but it's like the temple of Apollo.

I think that's the general problem with the concept suffering too, right? Since there's no explicit distinction for the mechanism (the how). There's not even a word for it, despite how important it is. Combine that with materialism promoting the pursuit of false ideals and there's no way you don't end up with Benthamites.

As far as a case, I think I could make an incongruous one in lieu of the congregation. A common ideal that your garden-variety anti-suffering materialist will (genuinely) hold is the ideal of morality, in opposition to the morality of the real. Materialism prioritizes the mundane over the ideal, though (the ideal is a product of material), so their ideal contradicts their ethos.

I was out a long time. That is a good observation! I was carrying on about Horace Greeley a few weeks back; he typified the contradiction, and never let it give him pause for reflection. Social media's created so many little uncle Horaces. Whig money just pays for a shitty little apartment now instead of a pleasanr estate. I'm going to try to ride out the winter in my basement. For someone who's been suicidal for so long to be worried about a great re-ordering seems internally inconsistent. I don't think it's so much that I want to blow my head off, I've just never been able to reconcile the idea of rolling the dice with a preset world. One of my greatest fears is being bothersome doesn't add anything. Any deeper thought I might provoke comes from a dead time, steeped in conditions impossible to recreate. Anything I add just invites the reader into my dead space. There was a video of a crazy tiktok woman going around earlier. Calling herself a doctor, and technically she was, PHD in public health-affiliated disciplines, hissing that people should die if they don't do their civic duty. Of course civic duty here means reify her oracular powers, when we know how her peers manipulate data to achieve the desired result sought by the entities who subsidise the programs tha confer her doctorate and credentials. And she has a kid or two. What could I possibly offer except doubt and headaches? Why should I be suffered to live at this point. The rough beast slouching towards Bethlehem, heralding a new world struggling to be born isn't helped by mutterings of old ghosts. And that's how they get you. They need permission to dispose of you, and maybe I want to give it to them. What do I have to offer.
