yeah but i feel bad. these guys are incredibly skilled and the things they make have incredible longevity. there's a demand for them alright, there's just not a lot of people willing to pay the prices that are required. years ago i read a post from some anon who claimed to be a traditional japanese bamboo fishing rod maker and one of those cost thousands of dollarydoos. and he was only ever allowed to do it as a westerner because there's no interest in it from japs.
the gubmint could easily subsidize it. if i can have 5 professors + 5 teaching assistants lecturing me every week for six months in a 100+ year old building at the center of sofia for 120 eur, i'm sure they could subsidize traditional craftsmen a bit more.
