Western society mythos stems from Phoenix mythos (4 seasons, cycle, death rebirth.)
While eastern society mythos stem from dragon mythos (2 seasons, wet and dry, one chaotic and one calm and the chaotic period breeds ingenuity and new beginnings and can be calculated)
This is just an extension of that and people using their observations to create a mythos and not even realizing why it's so easily accepted.
Flood stories are universal because every culture that gets anywhere is based around a water source that can flood and destroy anything. It's a common fear of ancient societies and it's rebuilding after leads to myths that get built upon over time and combine with humans natural tendency to view the past as the good old days. (Back then the world was perfect I swear, music was better, humans were kinder. Garden of Eden, Greek golden age etc)
Pyramids are key to create a society since it enforces the idea of a herachy, with the gods and leaders on top (or if you don't have pyramid builders you simply use a nearby mountain where the gods are at the top of) and a stable long lasting society that develops needs a pyramid structure (in management and development)
If human started over compeltely from scratch we'd have the same stories more or less based on geographical position. it's just the most natural path to take and daoism is true. Life always takes the path of least resistance. (see trying to imprint a society over an incompatible one and it's effects, Aboriginals, Indians being forced to civilized and adapt to a society that didn't develop out of their mythos. It's like organ donors, it's incompatible and will be rejected while it's easy to adapt a mythos and society over a similar one, see Egyptian society blending perfect with Romans, and then Christians overlaying pagan beliefs that were virtually identical etc)
