>>13616158You’re right that the authoritarianism aspect matters too, that’s why I said it was a mistake for them to crack down so hard on constructive criticism from within, especially criticism from “the right”. But at the same time, even though it was a dictatorship, they didnt really do anything that was unpopular with the people, quite the opposite actually, they definitely had more ‘Democratic’ support than any ruling elite had in any of the democratic countries. Of course we are lied to about this, but these lies are aided by the general belief that the Nazis were madmen only concerned with killing as many Jews as possible. Of course people have a hard time believing that would be a popular party platform. Knowing that this was never Nazi Germany’s platform helps you realize that they didn’t actually have to suppress very much dissent, as their actions were quite popular within Germany.
>Jews bribed them to escapeI don’t doubt that there was corruption of this kind, but at the same time, it doesn’t seem like an unreasonable choice to let Jews leave if they wanted to. In hindsight maybe you can say after all the Jews have done since then, including all the Holocaust slander, that they deserved simply to be exterminated, I don’t agree but I get it, but certainly back then it was not crazy to think “let the Atlanticists deal with the Jews if they like them so much”. As the true extent of Jewish power was not fully known. Yes they knew American and Anglo elite had philosemitic corruption, but they didn’t realize just how far it went, and that the Jews were capable of making Britain suicide it’s empire, and making America fight a world war to save communism despite >95% of Americans either preferring Germany to the soviets or not caring either way.
