It's one of the easier variations because of the possible answers listed, the dotted line is a dead giveaway. Most people would probably be able to intuitively guess the correct answer without understanding all the rules because the correct answer feels distinctly right, but if the question had had more similar answers fewer people would have gotten it.
/pol/ probably identified one of the rules, and it didn't occur to them multiple transformations would occur simultaneously in only one panel over. Interpreting it as only one very hard to decipher rule rather than several easy ones.
