>>13654640>do you not see the hypocrisy? You claim to abhor state violence but just said you'll demand it's protection when it suits you.? there's a difference between self-defense and actively seeking violence, friend
>Matt 10:34Jesus knew that his teachings would divide people and that those who follow him would need courage to do so in the face of opposition.
This opposition could affect peaceful relations among family members.
You didn't post the full quote of what Jesus said: “Do not think I came to bring peace to the earth; I came to bring, not peace, but a sword. For I came to cause division, with a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. Indeed, a man’s enemies will be those of his own household.”—Matt. 10:34-36.
In saying “Do not think I came to bring peace,” Jesus meant that some of his listeners needed to think about the consequences of following him. His message could divide people. Of course, Jesus’ motive was to proclaim God’s message of truth, not to damage relationships. (John 18:37) Still, holding faithfully to Christ’s teachings would be challenging if one’s close friends or family members rejected the truth.
>Luke 22:36When Jesus told his followers to carry swords on the night before he died, this was not so that they could protect themselves.
Rather, Jesus wanted to teach them a lesson: His followers should not use violence, even when they have to face a crowd that has weapons. (Luke 22:52)
After Peter used his sword to attack the high priest’s slave, Jesus commanded Peter: “Return your sword to its place.”
Then Jesus stated a principle that guides Christians even today: “All those who take up the sword will perish by the sword.”—Matthew 26:51, 52.
