Today we will be discussing the European tribal peoples of antiquity. These terms like "Vandal" "Goth" "Frank" "Gaul" "Pict" "Celt" "Scythian" "Cimmerian" "Lombard" "Thracian", aside from linguistics what were the differences between these people? I don't want to talk about the language they spoke, I want to discuss their ancestry and genetic similarity, their phenotypic features, their gods, their clothing and weapons and so on.
Many Greek and Roman historians often conflated different tribes, to the Romans there was little difference between a Goth and a Scythian. The modern scholarly view is that they were ignorant to their differences and that's why they thought them the same. I think it is much more likely that there was little difference in their appearance, lifestyle, practices, and gods and were truly only determined to be apart from one another was the language they spoke and the tribal membership they claimed.
