>>13696550No, I fully understand what a constitutional republic is. you elect a representative on the vague promise that he will speak on your behalf, he then does whatever he wants because he's not under any obligation to actually listen to you, you picked him to make the decisions for you. Theoretically, if you don't like the job he's doing to vote him out and someone else takes his place who also has no obligation to listen to you and does whatever he wants. In reality, the first guy just keeps getting reelected over and over again. I don't know why is doesn't work, seems like it should, but despite having a 3% approval rating, "congressman" is one of the safest careers in the world.
you would actually have more power in a mob rule direct democracy because the common man would actually have a say in the decision making instead of just who makes the decisions. Now there are a lot of measures that do get put before the public for a vote, but for everyone of those , there's a thousand measures that are voted on by representatives alone.
the problem with all distributed power structures is that there aren't enough honest people to run them. Think about it, if you were given ultimate power to sweep the slate clean and rebuild the republic, would you know enough competent honest people to staff it effectively?
