Up until the beginning of compulsory education, less than 1/10 of all the people in all of Europe knew how to read and write. People who lived in towns and cities had to use communal baths and had to literally shit out on the street prior to the invention of indoor plumbing, but most of the people in any country lived in the countryside anyway, or at least up until the Industrial Revolution.
I don't really get the point of you trying to look down on Native Americans for being brown "monkeys", when they built cities like Tenochtitlan, which were remarkably clean in comparison to European cities back in the early modern era.
It might be true that I have some native ancestors who were women who might've either gotten kidnapped by Spanish people or who could've been granted to the some Spanish soldiers by a native tribal chieftain as part of a peace agreement, but the fact still remains that most of my ancestors (and most people's ancestors) were dirt poor, ignorant peasants who believed in odd superstitions.
