I actually feel so heartbroken after finishing a romance manga today. It hurts even more than that time I broke up with my ex-gf.

Good points. I think the same too and I think it's a great story if it managed to touch my soul. I just feel really pathetic that somehow I feel more with this story than the actual relationship I've had in the past.

That's probably the reason why that manga was drawn in the first place, to have its readers emotionally invested in the characters and their relationship.
You might have been more touched by the story because you idealised the relationship in it.

That changes things, the guy makes some really stupid decisions near the end... I felt more annoyed than heartbroken after reading it.

I'm annoyed at the main character too. I was actually yelling out loud near the end and beg that it won't happen, but it did. Then after some moments of hurting, I think that the ending is not rushed or just there to piss viewers off. It's something I can definitely see in a real relationship in the real world. Plus I feel too bad for her so you're right in the sense that I idealised having a lover like her.

I still wish there's a different ending or another part (I know this manga is like a "sequel") where they go and have a happy ending in the end - the one every reader wants to see.

So did I, which is why I felt annoyed. But it wasn't a bad ending in itself. They've already set the guy up as inconstant so it didn't exactly come as a surprise. And from the author's perspective such an ending must have seemed more impactful than a happy one.

Yeah I feel like the whole plot is consistent with the nature of those two characters, and to add more realism to this the manga didn't need to force a "character development" aspect to either of them. Maybe it's because I am similar to this guy (I fucked up irl) that's why I can relate so much to the ending.

All in all, a great manga, but I'll still imagine the happy ending as my headcannon.
