>>13781336Yeah people thought once the hippy generation got old enough to go into government, stuff like that would be legalised. Although marijuana being mostly legalised knocked the socks off me in surprise. After all these decades of the USA bullying everyone else into keeping it illegal. It's why the Netherlands could only "decriminalise" it, they stopped enforcing the law but had to keep it on the books. The USA were cunts about it, as they always are.
But still here we are, very surprised. I wonder what arguments won them over? The prison industry's govt lobbyists must be pissed off, no pay rise for them.
But anyway... as ever the hippies were full of shit. So nothing worthwhile changed, despite the ardent protests they'd shout out constantly to anyone with a camera, back in the day. Actually give them power and they do fuck-all with it, mostly cos they're tied to their paymasters. Cos ultimately it costs a LOT of money to become elected in the USA, that's an undoubtable fact. A shitload of money. And it comes from companies, this is also known. And you think none of those companies want a little return on their investment? Are they stupid? Are you? So of course that's how it goes.
The solution is radical cuts to campaign spending and tight limits on contributions. Perhaps anyone with more than so-many thousand supporters gets a little free airtime to plead their case, so campaigns can be done cheaply. Would clear out so much clutter. And every lobbyist who visits a Representative, has the visit logged on a big website, and Twitter, so everyone knows about it.
