To answer you more seriously, OP, some people or offices will go drinking every night, but you can usually opt out with an excuse if you don't want to.
The end of the week and month parties are more formalized, and you're socially pressured to attend and pour drinks for your superiors. This is also where the higher-ups get to know the new low-level hires, since they are generally too busy to meet during the week.

If you're moving their for work a good bottle to gift is one the high quality American craft soju brands like West 32 or Tokki.
Korean soju is, by their own admission, largely weak grain alcohol-derived pisswater, the Korean equivalent of PBR or Budweiser. They just ignore the taste largely to get smashed.

That's interesting compared to the Germans. I worked for a very German family once and they were very authoritarian at the work place, but once a year they host a Christmas party and they completely let go. Super friendly and generous.

I guess it has to do with their strict division between work and home.
