Why is it bad to say the Ukraine? I’ve only seen and heard it referred to as the Ukraine. People don’t sperg out when I say the Netherlands, the Philippines, why should Ukraine be any different?

Hohols are fucking weird. I don't know how known it is outside of russia, but there is a whole eternal war between russians and ukrainians (mostly one sided) about prepositions. Basically in russian, when talking about ukraine it's most common to use "on ukraine" because of historical reasons, which for some reason assblasts hohols to the moon and they insist that we should say "in ukraine", like for most other countries.
