Lovely snake. Ran hot herps on the side when I was in Africa. The vipers were far easier to feed than the cobras and various aborial snakes.
My favorite viper stayed in a 55 gallon steel drum in my living room. When I would feed him, he would take a live eat from my forceps. Very well behaved. Almost like he had some intelligence. He was almost three feet long when I came home. He was so beautiful after a shed.
Was handling him one day and his fang shot to the side of his mouth and scratched my hand. I waited for a burn, nothing. I sure was lucky considering the fact that any form of treatment was about 10 hours by road. Never fucked up again after that.
I have seen big boys that had their heads bigger than a saucer or small plate.
