The void which was left in the collective soul of Western civilization when it shunned Christ, believing itself to be above the need to believe in transcendental now, turned into a gaping wound that allowed all sorts of infections to take place, such as existential crisis, degeneracy, moral nihilism, the lack of purpose.
That's when Buddhism came to West. It turns out people really do need a set of "irrational beliefs" to give their life a meaning, because simply acknowledging scientific facts, that we've evolved from primitive forms of life to more complex ones and that we live on a "giant rock circulating through space" isn't actually enough to sate our need for meaning and purpose, who would've thought.
That's also why paganism became a thing recently, same thing as with Buddhism, it tries to fill a void that was left after Christ was removed, and it's not quite successful there to be honest.
It's been obvious for two hundred hears yet so many people fail to see it still: Western civilization = Christianity. No Christ = no West, unless...
The West has three paths before itself: find another set of values that can successfully replace Christianity and that will be universally accepted (and good luck with that); disappear; or rekindle its faith in Christ.
Buddhism is entirely foreign to us and it's cringe.
Either be Christian, or at least an honest atheist/agnostic. LARPaganism and Buddhism are fake, gay and cringe.
