We are shown in the book of Acts that the Holy Spirit is guiding them throughout their ministry after the resurrection, and if you believe in the priesthood, the laying on of hands through apostolic succession still exists to this day. I don't think its correct to say that we believe the Pope or any of the bishops have a better understanding or connection though, its more accurate to say that they are the clergy of the Body of Christ and as per his promise in Matthew and in Timothy, the Church will stand until the end of time and forever be guided by truth through the Holy Spirit.

I tend to believe Calvin was a good guy but I am still on the fence with him, in my opinion its kind of sketchy that he was in Switzerland of all places, just because of the history of the place. I'm familiar with the history and I know he didn't like jews, but calvinism caused a lot of problems among the rabble in England in particular which played right into the hands of Cromwell and his masters.
