Original Neapolitan pizza only has tomato sauce, basil and mozzarella because that's all the people making it could afford in those days. Although I'll admit the quality of those ingredients is to notch. But as soon as poor Italians starting settling in USA, Brazil, Argentina etc, they started to actually put more ingredients on the pizza. Pepperoni, olives, sausage, peppers, mushrooms and so on. You can't convince me that a Neapolitan pizza with just three ingredients is better than pic rel. Italians seethe furiously about pizza because they don't want to admit that their own people who emigrated improved on Italian cuisine.
