3. the "defect station.
think cali tier absurdity where someone who has never spun a spanner in their life can declare your car "defective" or "unroadworthy" based off of "suspicion" (gut feeling).
said reason on the "defect notice" (also known as a "canary" cause the "minor" ones are yellow) are almost always made up of overly broad and vague non engineering terms that are impossible to argue against due to how they are listed.
the "goto" that is usually prewritten for these canaries when they do show up to a race track to harrass people as they leave is "emissions to comply".
much like the breath and drug testing they can order you to open your bonnet (hood) and refusal is treated as if your bonnet latch is "inoperable" and they just defect you for that.
other things they are fond of doing is grabbing your battery, yanking it till the clamps come loose and then listing that as a "defect" or demanding you show your windshield washer is working and if you do then they defect you for not having a full washer bottle or if you refuse then they defect you for having an inoperable winshield washer.
other things they are fond of doing is caliming your seatbelt doesnt retract "fast enough" with "fast enough" being completely up to whichever constable decided to pull you over.
oh right i almost forgot, they dont need to be operating any of these "checkpoints" to do this.
at any time they can turn on their lights, pull you over, claim they are doing a "random breath test" and then do wahtever the hell they want to do.
being "defected" means a $200 fine and being legally unable to drive the car unless you ae taking it to an inspection station to clear the "defect" and have "fixed" the "issue" of which the "issue" will change or new "issues" will be added each visit, usually about 3 or 4 times.
you will then be periodicly pulled over each time your plates are run when a cop pulls behind you and harrassed with more "defects".
