Aside from loli and fur-shit there's plenty of porn boards on 4chan, so there wasn't really any point to /b/ if that's all there was. A lot of the oldfags moved on to /a/, /co/, /k/, /sci/ and the other blue boards. From there a lot of us went to /pol/, which became a sort of /b/ 2.0, and even now, most threads seem to have nothing to do with politics. Bots became a big problem with /pol/ too, and it was really obvious when the Captcha changed because board activity crawled. Many off-topic threads on /pol/ get moved to /bant/, and I'm sure a lot of us now just come here directly if they didn't go back to the blue boards.
