Russia hasn't been relevant since the collapse of the USSR but for some reason westerners, particularly American, seem to think they are still a superpower (they have a GDP smaller than Italy and only 5% bigger than Australia)
Russia has been making moves lately though and if it manages to solidify its positions in Crimea and Eastern Ukraine that would be a massive boost towards becoming a greater power.
Climate change is also opening up the Arctic sea route which is mainly within Russian territorial waters (which has an estimated $19 trillion in resources), they have done far more to solidify their claims in the Arctic (through UN legal procedures and infrastructure development) than any other nation
Also massive amounts of ice are melting, opening up large areas of new arable farmland in a time when most other countries are losing it
They do have to watch out for China pushing in to Siberia under the guise of taking back their historic territory because the Chinese side of the border outnumbers the Russian side 200 to 1
UK is a meme
France and Germany are memes, might be relevant if the EU becomes 1 country but it looks like they're just going to keep cockteasing us and never actually fucking go through with it
