Its a bid sad reading random comments by random people from the 1800s and seeing how more literate they were than the average American, by orders of magnitude. Off the top of my head, John Brown the abolitionist guy who tried to start a slave revolt. Zero college, barely anything past primary school, would put anyone alive today to shame. Reading really does build the most human asset we have, our imagination.
