Imperial measurements are more ergonomic, which is why we still measure human heights in feet/inches and weights in pounds (or stones even in some countries).
Metric has its place in the sciences, but most every day human-scale measurements feel better in imperial units. There's a joke about this in 1984, where an old man complains about how a pint is the perfect size for a drink, and that a half-litre is too small while a full litre is too much.
