See pic. A (more than) annual Russian nazi/nationalist demonstration.
These Nazis, or more accurately extreme nationalists, were present for a long time in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, so it should be of no surprise that when the political revolution happened it was none but the aggressive gangs of nazis that got involved. The Russian media managed to shame Ukraine greatly for it, and conveniently swept under the rug its own nazis, and the extent of support they had. (Want to know where the Russian nazis are now? Fighting as volunteers in Donetsk, that's where.)
So be careful when you say that Ukraine is "overrun" by Nazis - it isn't any more full of dumb nationalist gangs than it was for the last 20 years or that Russia is. That's just slavic society for you- a disproportionate number of dumb animals.
They do indeed hate Russia to an irrational and harmful extent, in that they are too dumb to see that ultimately there is no benefit in blood-brothers like Ukraine and Russia fighting. They idolise Ukrainian independence so much they would rather spit on that. However, they are right in that Ukraine has been under too much Russian influence under the old president.
However, whenever a revolution or conflict happens, who is it that gets involved but the most aggressive, disagreeable members of society? Those kind of people in Russia are now fighting in Donetsk and they ran to fight in Georgia too in 2008, to give them somewhere to release violent urges.
Now, attacking Soviet Veterans is something I've never heard of. It is fucked up, but it is almost certainly an isolated case by some abomination of a person.
