A study was done on England showing that the working and upper class spoke in a more similar manner while the middle class used more sophisticated language. The reasoning behind it was that because the middle class felt desperate to prove themselves as rich, they would try to speak like they were upper class. The upper class however spoke more like the working class because the upper class was confident in their wealth and did not feel desperate to prove their wealth.
