Fungi identification is a pain in the ass, but there’s 2 things that can help: color of the colony and morphology of the sporangium.
This applies to all sensu stricto fungi, but for Oomycota, Chitridiomycota and Mycetozoa all those taxonomic relevant characteristics change for general morphology.

I would need a microscope to really be able to look at the sporangium and identify them, right? Have you ever had to look at fungi in a lab setting? Would all I need is a scope, agar and Petri's to get started?
