>>14254314I'm half terrone from my father's side, with all of american "italians" (even my some of my cousins with 23andMe results saying 30% italian ancestry) identifying as "Italian" primarily, it's like pulling teeth to get them to admit they are american mystery-meat mutts, grew up entirely in bland american suburbs and know nothing the country today, its history, language, etc. aside from a few phrases from Godfather or Sopranos . They can't even pronounce Bruschetta or Tagliatelle correctly, or even guess what year Italy was unified without being hundreds of years off of the answer. The few times these Italians have been to "the motherland" they complained not everybody they tried to interact with could speak english... Anyways, ten+ years ago I mentioned they might be eligible to apply for Italian citizenship due to lineage which I now regret. A few of them have gone thru the priliminary steps- foremost is my "cugino" with his half black offspring he insisted on giving slightly-incorrect and cringy Italian names. That guy will likely technically be an italian within a few years... I could be if I really wanted but despite all of the glorious architecure, nice food, it's a country in rapid demographic demise that will be less than half actual italian within 20 years, and I'd rather not witness that with my own eyes.
