Most people convert their funds through Monero, shuffle it around, and then off-ramp it into the currency of their choice. It's a lot like how criminals will do shit like buy a bunch of TVs with stolen money and then sell those TVs off for "clean" money.
You could, however, make money off of it by getting into one of those Cash-For-Monero scams. You buy it at exchange prices and then sell it at a markup to criminals or people who don't want to use exchanges (usually also criminals).
You won't, however, get rich buy just holding it.
