The vaccines currently being distributed target the spike proteins of coronaviruses rendering them inert, but you get a broader range of protection from natural infection. That's why omicron was able to sidestep the majority of vaccinations and infect both groups equally well.
Overall, the low risk of vaccine side effects don't really seem worthwhile when the dominant strain has pushed out the ones that cause death in people with few or no comorbidities.
